How do I know when to change the timing belt on my Honda Civic?

Its a good idea to have them changed about every 60,000 miles. If you bought the car used and don't know when it was last changed, check to see if there's a plastic removable inspection plate at the top and you can view the belt. Garages charge anywhere from 125 to 350 dollars to replace the belt which most of them will replace your waterpump, too, since it has to come off anyway to get to the belt. If you can afford to do so and again not sure how old the belt is go ahead and get it replaced. How do I know when to change the timing belt on my Honda Civic?
when the book sez..usually about 75ooo milesHow do I know when to change the timing belt on my Honda Civic?
When you see it getting worn, or if it starts cracking against the grooves.

say these ^^^^^^^^ are the groove of you're belt from a horizontal view.

if it cracks ^ this way its ok

if it cracks %26gt; this way you need a new belt.
Honda Civic (and accord) is at 60,000 miles. The replacement belt also says 60,000 miles. I changed my accord belt at 98,000 just a wee bit over the suggested 60,000 amount, oops.
get a good light, look at the belt and if you see small cracks on the inside of the belt, you should get ready to change it ! if big cracks change it now , read your owners manual, this if the biggest source of knowledge you can have, mileage is the key to knowing when to have only the basic maintenance done. this book give you all the things to look at and inspect !
